South Phoenix Restaurants
The selection of South Phoenix Restaurants has increased over the years. I have lived in South Phoenix since 1981. Even though eating out was not a frequent thing for our family, I do remember being aware that there were just a few places to choose from.
I feel like there is still room for so much more here. We have more than enough fast food places, we don’t need more of those. And I do wish we had a Pita Jungle or True Food Kitchen here. Or something similar. Nonetheless, there are some pretty fabulous places to choose from if you are looking to go out to eat.
Mexican food restaurants ABOUND here. One of my absolute favorites, hands down, is Cocina Madrigal. They have delicious steak tacos, mushroom enchiladas, fresh churros filled with Bavarian cream. Everything I have had there has been amazing. It’s a great place near 16th Street and Broadway. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, this is a good one.
Another favorite of mine is Sun Asian Kitchen. This one is located in the Target shopping center near 24th Street and Baseline. Our family’s favorite dish there is the honey crispy chicken. Our daughter loves the vegetable low mein, too. The portions are very generous, even on the lunch specials.
For lunch I also like going to Tortas Paquimé on Central just north of Baseline Road. The tortas are made fresh and they are served with potato chips. Other things I recommend there are the pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread), tacos, ice cream, and breakfast burritos. If I get the chance, I love to stop there for breakfast.
I could go on and on about great restaurants in South Phoenix. Our neighbor to the west, Laveen, has some pretty amazing places, too. Like Charlie Mae’s Soul Food and Mimi Forno Italiano, just to name a few.
What about you? What are your favorite South Phoenix Restaurants? I would love to hear about them!
