One of the Valley’s Best Kept Secrets
In my opinion, South Phoenix is one of the valley’s best kept secrets. Living here has so many benefits. We are just a few miles south of the bustling downtown Phoenix area. One of the largest municipal parks in the nation, South Mountain Park, is right in our own backyard. It is teeming with miles and miles of beautiful trails perfect for hiking, horseback riding, jogging, and just being able to spend time in nature.
Great restaurants
Our restaurant scene continues to grow. Throughout the Baseline Corridor and beyond, we offer BBQ, soul food, Mexican food, Chinese food, pastry shops, coffee shops, there is so much available. We have all the usual fast food chains, including one of my absolute favorites, Chick-Fil-A. I love that sweet tea! A top Mexican food restaurant also calls South Phoenix home, Cocina Madrigal. The steak tacos there are some of the absolute best, so flavorful! The Bavarian cream filled churros are not bad, either.
Location
If you are looking to visit other parts of town, it really is just a short drive away. Or bus ride. And soon, light rail ride. Light rail construction has begun along Central Avenue and will continue for the next two to three years. Not to worry. The businesses along Central Avenue continue to be accessible during this time.
The local freeway system is not very far from the majority of our neighborhoods. The I-10, I-17, and the South Mountain Freeway offer easy access to all parts of the valley. Our Phoenix metro area is spread out geographically and I feel as if our community is right in the middle.
Small town feel
For years, I have felt as if living in South Phoenix was like living in a small town. Although I have not personally lived in a small town myself. Unless you count the summer months I spent visiting my grandmother in her small town in Mexico.
I grew up here, went to elementary, junior high and high school here. While I attended Arizona State University after high school, during the summers I would take extra courses at South Mountain Community College. And I still run into people from elementary school when I am out and about at the grocery store or visiting a restaurant.
This is the kind of place where families stay, neighbors know each other and watch out for one another. I love that about our neighborhood near 7th Avenue and Dobbins. My mom lives near 7th Avenue and Southern and has neighbors whose families have had their homes for over 40 years!
I am proud to live here and will gladly share the benefits of buying a home here. What are you waiting for? Are you looking for a brand new home? A home with golf course views?
